<![CDATA[RISE Ministries founder Rob Rozeboom was diagnosed with a debilitating degenerative disease (severe muscular dystrophy) at age 5, but, through Christ, his family, and a lot of perseverance, he has learned to "enjoy the journey", and see God at work through whatever life throws his way. This podcast includes great interviews with guests who have also had struggles in their lives, but have learned to "enjoy the journey", and praise God through it all. It's also a great way for Rob and the RISE Ministries team to speak more directly to listeners, and we're so happy you're joining us!]]>

Lydia has been on staff at Sunnybrook Church for 5 years. After moving to Sioux City with her family in 8th grade, she grew up through Sunnybrook’s student ministries. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and began her teaching career at Waukee Middle School. After four years of teaching, she felt God calling her back to Sioux City, to Sunnybrook, and into ministry, and she began working in student ministry. <![CDATA[Welcome back friends!😊 Spring is coming soon, but, while we wait, we're so excited to share this week’s episode of Enjoying the Journey with you! On today's podcast, we got to sit down with our friend, Heather Kittelson for a sweet IN-PERSON interview! Heather is a wife, mom of four, the Foundation Director for Volunteers Of America, and the Founder/Owner of Redemption Artistry. We're tackling some real world issues today, as Heather shares her story about overcoming abuse and alcoholism, and how God redeemed and saved her life (literally)! These things aren't always easy to bring up with the people around you, but they are things that more of us deal with than we realize, and we're so blessed that Heather is willing to be so transparent about them, as we should all try to be! Transparency creates real relationships, as we should want with each other, and with Jesus, who already sees and loves us for who we are. You are AWESOME, thanks so much for listening!!!]]>

Their mission is to preach the Gospel worldwide and train others to do so. Dr. Tim's been working in ministry for over 50 years (so much wisdom and grace!!)! Since founding ETeamGlobal in 2011, Dr. Tim and ETG’s ministry has touched the lives of more than 375,000 people, with almost 50,000 accepting Christ. Tim and ETG have also trained almost 20,000 evangelists and pastors on how to more effectively share and teach the Gospel.

Rob and Dr. Tim talk about his journey in life and ministry and how God has granted him the desires of his heart. We hope this episode blesses you as much as it blessed us!

<![CDATA[We are so delighted to share this week's episode with you, as Rob sits down with our friend, Nancy Lindgren. Nancy is the Founder and CEO of MORE Mentoring, and is passionate about walking alongside others and pointing them to Jesus, something she’s done faithfully for over 20 years, and has been featured on MOPS and Channel Mom! Listen in to hear Rob and Nancy (and another special guest!) talk about life, and the benefits of having a mentor in your life, or just someone that you trust and can be completely transparent and honest with. It is so rewarding to open yourself up, and to humbly learn from the experiences of those around you, and it's equally important to share your experiences with others. Letting people share their gifts with you may also be more beneficial to THEM than you realize. Remember in Mark: 12, 41-44, where the widow brings her last coins as offering to the temple, and Jesus points out that she is giving more than anyone else? Letting people give their advice or gifts to you, no matter how small, might mean the world to them! Love each other, friends, we love you!!!😊]]>

<![CDATA[Hello beautiful people!😊 We are so excited and honored to share this week's episode of "Enjoying the Journey" with you, and to introduce you to our guest, Megan Fate Marshman! As an international speaker at churches, conferences and university chapels, Megan is a leading voice to this generation. She has devoted her life to loving God and overflowing His transformative love to others. Megan is currently a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church and the Director of Women’s Ministries at Hume Lake Christian Camps. She also shepherds women at her home church, Arbor Road. She enjoys adventuring all over the globe with her boys as she speaks and shares the love of Jesus. She authored the books “Meant for Good” and "SelfLess," and co-wrote the book, "7 Family Ministry Essentials," with Dr. Michelle Anthony.

In February of 2021, Megan’s husband, Randy Marshman, went home to be with Jesus after suffering a heart attack. For Megan, “to live is Christ, to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).” She grieves with hope and lives to become more like Christ so others may know Him more through her. We are so excited for you to be here, and to hear conversations that are sometimes hard, because that's what life can be for all of us, at different times and in different ways. We love you, and can't wait for you to listen! (BTW, we apologize for the short audio glitches. Thank you for bearing with us.)]]>

<![CDATA[Welcome back friends!!! And welcome back, "Enjoying the Journey"! We are SO excited to be back with another episode, and to be starting a new season of the podcast! We can't wait to share more interviews and stories, make new friends, and continue to encourage one another in our daily lives, and walks with Christ! Today's episode is with an amazing new friend of ours, Ben Fuller. Ben is an amazing musician and musical artist that we have become such huge fans of, along with his story and testimony. Early in his life, Ben began to struggle with substance abuse, which led to finding himself in a drug-fueled relationship, and even losing his closest friend to a heroin overdose. Motivated to change, he moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a country singer in late 2018. He was invited to church one Sunday, and immediately knew that he wanted to sing "that kind of music" for the rest of his life. Falling face first into his new-found relationship with Jesus, he began writing with a burning desire to share what God did to turn his life around. Today, Ben lives completely sober, while sharing his story filled with hope, mercy and grace. By turning his testimony into songs, he has been rejuvenated with a new passion and mission; to share his story with the world and all who are ready to listen. We were so blessed to have Ben join us on the podcast, and we are so blessed to have you here as well! We love you, thanks for listening!]]>

<![CDATA[On today's episode of "Enjoying the Journey", we are so honored and blessed to be joined by our friends Steve and Celestia Tracy, founders of "Mending the Soul"! Mending the Soul was conceived in 2003 when Steve and Celestia Tracy and a handful of men and women met with a passion to comfort those broken by abuse. Because there were few resources available to address the complexities of abuse and neglect, Steve and Celestia published Mending the Soul: Understanding and Healing Abuse to educate on the nature and effects of abuse, and the Mending the Soul Workbook to guide survivors through an interactive and integrated process of healing and forgiveness in community with each other. Together, the Tracys co-founded and co-direct Mending the Soul, mentoring and supervising collaborative teams of writers, artists, musicians, educators, students, mental health providers, and business professionals who create the sustainable healing models and curricula for Mending the Soul Ministries for global application. Steve and Celestia have three grown children, who, with their families, partner with them in ministries of justice and mercy. Listen in to hear Rob talk to Steve and Celestia about how their individual journeys, what they bring to Mending the Soul, and how that works as a couple as well! There are so many amazing moments in this episode covering a range of tough topics, and we're so happy you're here to listen in! We love you!]]>

Pastor Ebony is a dynamic woman of faith, impassioned by her strong conviction in Christ alone. Born in New York City, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of eleven, yet it wouldn’t be until she became a young adult that the reality of Jesus Christ as Lord took up root and cemented her walk with God. Pastor Ebony is vice president of global ministries at Pulse Movement, a ministry committed to awaken culture to the reality of Jesus. She was formerly the director of Movement Day Expressions at MOVEMENT.ORG, where she was dedicated to catalyzing leaders to affect cities across the globe. We loved making this episode so much, and Rob and Ebony had a great time talking about her work at Pulse while still being a pastor in Harlem, the transformation of her job/life in the past year, and where her passions (and, of course, the Lord😊) are taking her next!!!]]>

Parker started the podcast last year, and we found it only fitting that he be the guest during his last week at RISE ministries, before he leaves to start law school at the University of Iowa next week! Listen in to hear Rob and Parker talk about their last year and a half together, Parker’s faith journey, and what this experience means to him going forward.
A note from Parker: “I was so honored to be interviewed on our own podcast this week, and had so much fun coming to the mic😊. This has probably been the most influential and impactful year of my life, and, as strange as it is to say, being sent home because of COVID last March was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. My time at RISE has been beyond special, and our mission is one that I’ll be trying to live out for the rest of my life. I have seen teamwork, selflessness, faith, and community demonstrated here in a way that I will never forget, and this organization and community are truly unique. Ellie Waring is the hardest working, kindest hearted, most selfless person I have ever met, and I have learned so much just getting to work beside her. Rob and I got close very quickly, and I am so proud to now call him one of my very best friends, my mentor/role model, and an extra parent. Being trusted by him is one of the greatest honors I have ever been given, one that I can’t describe in words. I will forever live my life trying to “see a need, meet a need”. To all who listen to the podcast, support RISE, and have been so kind and loving to me: THANK YOU. I love all of you so much, and am always just an email/message away.]]>

<![CDATA[On episode 30 of “Enjoying the Journey” (WOAH 30 episodes!!!🎉😊) we are so excited to chat with our new friend, Taylor Turkington, founder of BibleEquipping! Taylor has a passion for training and supporting Bible teachers so they are able to serve even better equipped in the Scriptures. She launched BibleEquipping to continue the work she had been doing for more than a decade training women to study and teach the Bible, and to do it with people she loved. Today she enjoys teaching, leading, and coaching she gets to do through BibleEquipping. Still, she continues dreaming and praying for new ways to equip women to serve the Church.
Previously, Taylor launched and directed the Women’s Training Network for The Gospel Coalition and co-founded The Verity Fellowship for Western Seminary. Her experience includes living overseas, training women internationally, and working in the local church. Taylor has an MA and Doctor of Ministry from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, where she lives with her family.
Listen in to hear Taylor and Rob talk about the mission of BibleEquipping. Whether you are just learning to read the Bible or have attended seminary, they have designed content to serve you in your next steps of studying and teaching the Word. “It is our heart that you would feel humbly “equipped for every good work” to speak the truth of the Scriptures to others with competence and joy.” Rob and Taylor also discuss her experience living with constant chronic pain, and the role that plays in her life and faith. We’re so glad you’re with us!!!]]>

<![CDATA[On Episode 28 of Enjoying the Journey, we are honored to joined by our new friend and Chief Evangelism Officer of Faith 2 Faith Ministries, Tom Miyashiro! F2F Ministries is committed to reaching young people for Christ by understanding youth culture and operating within its context, presenting Christ in a language teenagers can understand, making Jesus relevant to their world, using innovative approaches to gain their attention, and connecting church community across denominational lines to proclaim Christ as one. Tom explained to us that New England is one of the least reached places in the nation when it comes to evangelism, and it was so interesting to hear about his "small town ministry" approach to mobilizing youth for Christ! We absolutely LOVED hearing Tom speak honestly about the challenges of working with the communities he does (I think we can ALL see difficult traits in our own communities😉), and how he wants to create change in churches that often reject it! We also had an incredibly emotional conversation with Tom about the death of his first wife, and the role/evolution of his faith through that experience. Truly, we are so excited for this episode, and are so glad you're with us!!!]]>

<![CDATA[On this week's episode of "Enjoying the Journey" (episode 27!!!) we are so thrilled to be joined by our friend, York Moore. York is the National Evangelist for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship USA, and the author of "Growing Your Faith by Giving it Away" and "Making All Things New: God’s Dream for Global Justice". He is a frequently sought after speaker and modern-day abolitionist who has given the invitation for faith at the last two Urbana Missions Conferences, and has led over 10,000 students to faith in Christ through his teaching and preaching ministry coast to coast. Through campus campaigns, York has been able to mobilize tens of thousands of faculty, students, churches, politicians, business leaders, and others to passionately engage the issue of the commercial sexual exploitation of children while also challenging many "non and anti-churched" participants to follow Jesus Christ. Working widely with anti-trafficking non-governmental and not for profit organizations, Moore has been able to help forward the cause of front-line organizations in their work to fight modern-day slavery for over ten years. Listen in to hear the guys talk about York's background as an Atheist, coming to Christ after a suicide attempt as an honors student, and the "3 conversions" that have taken place in his life and shaped the path of his ministry. We're REALLY excited about this one, and so glad to have you with us!!!]]>

<![CDATA[On episode 21 of the podcast, we are so excited to share our awesome conversation with pro skateboarder, Brian Sumner! Brian is an Evangelist/Pastor/Speaker, Host of The Foolishness Podcast and Author of the “Never Fails” Marriage Book, and came to faith in 2004 at the height of his professional skateboard career. Born in Liverpool England, Brian transplanted to America at age 15 to become part of Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse Skateboards, building a successful (over a decade!) career riding for some of the biggest skate companies in the world, reaching international acclaim. His marriage is one of the most amazing parts of his faith story. In 1999, Brian was married, and soon expecting a child with his with, Tracy. Within just a few years of marriage, without either of them having faith, they were soon fighting, struggling, and divorced, leaving Brian angry, depressed and even suicidal. A year of separation led Brian in search for truth, ultimately to prove there was no God, with the goal of proving life had no purpose. As Brian challenged the different faiths, asking tough questions and digging into Gods Word, he had a life changing experience leading to his coming to faith in Jesus Christ. Listen in to hear Brian talk to Rob about finding God, and the amazing journey that has included re-marrying Tracy! We are so excited you’re here!]]>

<![CDATA[On episode 20 of Enjoying the Journey (20 episodes!!!) we are SO excited to sit down with founder of “BLDR Faith” apparel, Blake Stanley! After growing up being taught about using his gifts and talents to glorify God, Blake decided to use his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to spread the gospel of Jesus, and created “BLDR Faith” in 2017! BLDR’s mission is to spread the message that Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life of servanthood, died so that we may live, and was raised from the dead showing that He alone can conquer sin and death and is worthy of our praise. Blake’s hope is that by wearing BLDR apparel, you will be able start many conversations, leading you to boldly share the hope, love, salvation, and message of Christ. BLDR is an acronym for “Birth Life Death Resurrection” and is pronounced "BOLDER." Because of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we are offered the free gift of salvation and can receive the Holy spirit. Therefore we may share our faith with boldness. BLDR is a source for Gospel proclamation tools, so if you are looking for a simple way to share the Gospel, and doors for Christ centered conversations to be opened, check them out! Thanks for tuning in, we’re so glad you’re here!!!]]>

<![CDATA[On Episode 19 of the podcast, we are so blessed and excited to be joined by founder of Dare 2 Share Ministries, Greg Stier! After growing up in a violent family in the inner-city of Denver, Colorado, Greg saw those same family members transformed by the power of the gospel, which inspired him to pursue a life of spreading the gospel himself! Greg founded Dare 2 Share in 1991 to train teens to share their faith, and, in 1999, decided to pursue Dare 2 Share full time. He has been speaking, writing books, training, and teaching about youth ministry and evangelism ever since! We are HUGE fans of Dare 2 Share, which exists to see the gospel advanced and makes disciples of today’s youth. They equip youth leaders to build Gospel Advancing Ministries, providing training for youth pastors, curriculums for youth groups, and platforms for youth to start conversations with others and start hosting their own events! It was amazing to talk to Greg about his upbringing in the inner-city of Denver, the moments that inspired him to take up ministry full-time, and to hear about the amazing passion he has for speaking to youth and youth leaders around the country. If you are a youth pastor, student, or a person wanting to learn more about becoming an active disciple, Greg is the guy to listen to, and we are so excited to share this episode with you!!!!]]>

Carson is the founder of the “Carson King Foundation”, and the Iowa State student who raised $3 million for the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital! Carson went viral on all kinds of social media platforms after his sign (“Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished, Venmo: Carson-King-25”)was seen all over TV when he held it up during ESPN’s College GameDay coverage of an Iowa State University football game. After the first few hundred dollars worth of contributions came through, Carson decided to donate the total amount to the children’s hospital after setting aside $18.00 to purchase one case of Busch Light. Word spread of Carson's intentions, and the story gained the attention of Annheuser Busch and Venmo, who committed to matching King's donation. Contributions continued to pour in, eventually climbing to over $3 Million from more than 35,000 donors. That event sparked a passion for charitable work in Carson’s life, and he is now the head of the “Carson King Foundation”. Listen in to hear him talk to Rob about his rise to stardom, the purpose and goals of the “Carson King Foundation”, about the fun ways that people can support Iowans in need, and even about the crazy power that social media has in today's world! <![CDATA[In episode 16 of "Enjoying the Journey", we were so excited to be able to travel to Sioux City to talk IN PERSON (that seems rare these days, doesn't it?😊) with the lead pastor of Sunnybrook Community Church, Jeff Moes. He has previously served churches in Mississippi and the Chicagoland area, and since 2002 has called Sunnybrook home. Under his leadership, Outreach Magazine named Sunnybrook one of the fastest growing churches in America in 2014, and then again in 2016! Sunnybrook’s mission is "SEEKING those who don’t know Jesus, GROWING those who do, and SENDING those who will". Jeff loves being a part of that mission and is passionate about seeing people transformed by the Word of God. He has been married to his wife Beth for 35 years, and they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. On today's episode, Rob is able to ask Jeff to give insight into being a pastor for such a large church like Sunnybrook, and what it was like to be its leader during periods of change and growth. From talk about children and family joining in their ministries, to the challenges that Jeff encounters in the everyday life of a lead pastor, this was such a fun and encouraging episode to make, and we can't wait for you to listen!!!]]>

<![CDATA[On episode 15 of "Enjoying the Journey", we had such an amazing time catching up with professional skateboarder and friend of RISE Ministries, Tim Byrne! Tim is an Urban Missionary/ Pastor and Itinerant Evangelist under the leadership of the original Skatechurch in Portland, Oregon. As a Pro Skateboarder since the early 2000's, Tim has used his skating to reach hundreds of thousands with the Gospel. His mission is one that speaks to us so much: sharing the good news of Jesus, and discipling those that are often overlooked in our culture. Tim does this each week through his role at Skatechurch, and by partnering with numerous ministries all over the globe. It was so amazing not only for Rob and Tim to recall their time traveling together, but to learn more about Tim's passion and outreach in the Portland area. Tim explains what "Skatechurch" is and its role in the community, what it's like to preach the gospel in tough neighborhoods that are often overlooked, and explains how he reaches out to a population that often feels excluded by the church. We hope you enjoy today's episode, and are so glad you are here!!!]]>

<![CDATA[In this weeks episode, we had the honor of talking to Paul Ten Haken, current mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota! After holding various marketing and executive roles in Sioux Falls and earning his MBA from the University of Sioux Falls, Paul founded the marketing technology agency Click Rain in 2008, where he served as CEO until 2017. While CEO, Click Rain was the only South Dakota company included on the Inc. 5000 list as one of America’s fastest growing private companies for the five consecutive years. The agency has won numerous awards for its unique workplace culture, including the prestigious “Entrepreneur 360” award in 2016 and the Embee Tribute to Women “Embeliever” award. Paul was named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Ten Emerging Entrepreneurs as well as South Dakota Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Paul’s primary passion, however, lies in the leading and development of people. He is the co-founder of the Dispatch Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that creates international service trip opportunities and philanthropic outlets for business leaders. Paul also travels to Haiti annually to work with organizations serving the people of Haiti. He also is a frequent speaker on the topics of empowerment, workplace culture, and leadership. He credits the blessings/success in his life to his faith, and it was awesome to chat with him about keeping that faith while being in such a large leadership role, and using a relationship with Christ to overcome outside influences and stressors. Thanks so much for listening!!!]]>

Today we were so honored that Bob Lenz was willing to be extremely open and honest with us, and share about his faith and story. Since founding Life Promotions in 1982, Bob has spoken to youth in all 50 states and across the globe. He is infinitely passionate about sharing the love of Jesus, which gives teens hope for this life and the next. Whether he is partnering with local churches or touring with national recording artists, he is committed to sharing a respectful and relevant message to the next generation. It was so amazing to talk to Bob about how he has stayed strong in his faith through tremendous amounts of adversity in his life, about how much we all matter and are loved and valued as individuals, and about ways we can all find a little more joy in our daily lives. Thanks so much for listening, we love you!]]>

<![CDATA[In the first episode of season 2 of "Enjoying the Journey", we had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Pastor Adam Weber, lead pastor and founder of the multi-site Embrace church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Adam started Embrace in 2006 when he was 24 years-old, and didn't always plan on being a pastor. However, like occurs in many of our lives, God had a different plan. Adam has been recognized as one of the youngest pastors on the list of fastest-growing churches in the country, speaks at national conferences, has a blog, hosts his own podcast (The Conversation), and wrote the books "Talking With God" and "Love Has a Name". Adam is married to his beautiful wife, Becky, and has four kids: Hudson, Wilson, Grayson, and Anderson. In today's episode, Rob and Adam talk about Adam's path into ministry and the church, what ministry and a relationship with Christ mean to him, and the way we can find more joy in our journeys by looking to serve others first. This is one of our favorite episodes, and we can't wait for you to listen!]]>

<![CDATA[We are so blessed in episode 8 to be joined by speaker, mental health advocate, and former football player (University of Colorado, signed by Seattle Seahawks) Patrick Devenny! Specifically, Patrick specializes in talking about eating disorders, as a recovering bulimic. He cuts through the "BS" of what sounds good and the stereotypes of society, and normalizes the topic of eating disorders for males, speaking in terms men can actually relate to. Eating Disorders are commonly associated with women, but Patrick pushed through stigmas and learned that they affect everyone, including him: a 245 pound former professional football player. We're living in a world the surrounds us with examples of unrealistic expectations: magazines in the store, pictures on social media, movie stars on tv, etc. However, like we've talked about at RISE, we are all made in God's image, unique in our own ways, and our individual talents are used for the glory of God, to bring others closer to him. Things like eating disorders control our minds to the point we lose focus on the other relationships in our lives, and even change our personalities, to the point where our God-given talents get pushed to the back-burner. Patrick is incredible at pushing through the lies that society throws at us, and is an example of someone who has tried to create a lifestyle that gave him a "perfect body", but realized that giving up control and focusing on the more important relationships and experiences in our lives can be so much sweeter. He, like us, wants to help you "enjoy your journey", and we're so blessed to have him today!!!!]]>

Jennifer farms with her husband and kids in Iowa, and brings amazing thoughtfulness and perspective to every conversation we have! <![CDATA[In episode 5, we are lucky enough to be joined by our good friend and AMAZING illusionist Joshua Jordan!!! Joshua is an award winning Illusionist, comedian and international speaker, and is a favorite of ours because of the way he combines his comedy, illusions, and ministry. He excels at improv, making all of his shows unique and fun, and we have been so lucky to travel with him and have him at RiseFest! Listen in to hear Joshua talk with Rob about the way he came to Jesus, and about how he was able to come through a period of questioning and uncertainty in his faith journey that many of us encounter. Though ministry can be a battle, and an extremely tough road, Joshua remains positive, hilarious, and devoted to sharing about the hope of Christ with others!]]>

Justin has been a friend of ours for a long time, from being a church youth director here in Sheldon to traveling with us on mission trips, we've been through a lot. We talk to Justin about his road to ministry, what struggles he has encountered during this spring, summer, and now fall, and how he continues to enjoy his journey with his wife and three children! Justin shares about his time being homeless in college, becoming a lead pastor in the middle of a pandemic, and how he's held onto hope after losing his sister earlier this year. We talk about disappointment, and what it's like walking through the fire knowing that we're never alone. We hope you find encouragement on today's episode!]]>

<![CDATA[In episode 3 of the podcast, we sit down with another artist that we love having at RiseFest, Cade Thompson! Shortly after finishing high school, Cade moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and signed a record deal with Red Street Records, an independent Christian label founded by Rascal Flatts member, Jay DeMarcus. In February of 2020, Cade made waves across the Christian music community with the release of his debut single, “Provider”. Currently, Cade is in the studio writing and recording his debut album.
Rob and Cade talk about what it's like to be a successful Christian recording artist at such a young age, the struggle that has been staying positive during a COVID-caused downtime that has been difficult for so many artists, and the meanings behind Cade's most recent singles that speak to many so deeply, especially now!]]>

By providing employment and educational opportunities, Sseko enables women to continue their education and become leaders in their country.
Using her unlikely story of a journalist-gone-shoe-maker, Liz shares her passion for social enterprise, conscious consumerism, social justice, creative leadership, gender equity, risk-taking, and empowering women. She believes deeply that business is a powerful platform for social change and that girls are our future.
We're so excited for you to listen to Rob and Liz talk about their journey's together, how miracles come in different forms and unexpected places, and how a helping hand can mean as much for the person giving as it does the person receiving!]]>
